Cat fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) are among the most common fleas found around the world. These fleas are recognizable by their narrow, dark reddish-brown bodies and feed on a host's blood to reproduce. Populations can quickly establish as one female flea can lay hundreds of eggs in the span of a few days and hitch rides on unsuspecting animals. Signs of a flea infestation include pets excessively scratching themselves, small, black excrement (flea dirt) in the pet’s fur, and bites on humans around the ankles or lower legs. Flea infestations begin outdoors and can rapidly escalate once introduced indoors, so a comprehensive treatment plan is required for the most effective flea control.
